Introduction to Charts

This version of Genealogy Pro support the horizontal format of two basic chart types. These are

1. Descendant Charts (Family charts).

These start with a family and link the children, and their children's children and so on.

2. Ancestor Charts (Direct Line Charts or Pedigree Charts).

These start with an individual and link the parents, grandparents, and so on.

A chart is created by choosing Chart->New Chart menu. A focus individual for the chart must first be selected - implicit through a current family window, or a selected individual in the individual list or a selection of an individual in another chart.

The information in a chart is directly linked to the database. For example, changing a name in a chart will alter the name in the database.

Double clicking the name of a person in the chart will bring up a family window for that individual.

One convenient and visual method of entering data into the database is to start with the oldest ancestor in a family chart. Use the 'Add Son', 'Add Daughter' or 'Add Spouse' menu functions. Click on the names to edit the data. Note that Shift clicking ?on a name or date is a quick edit method bypassing the family window.
